When we were searching online for where to stay in Yangon we found it difficult to decide. We wanted a budget option that was nice enough and at least clean.
We stayed at Eden Palace Hotel in Tamwe Plaza. It is 5kms from the Thai Embassy and Shwedagon Pagoda. It is definitely not in the tourist area but we preferred this area as we didn’t see any other westerners. We felt more relaxed here than in the city centre.
This hotel was quite old and the room didn’t have a great sense of cleanliness. For instance, there was carpet on our floor but I had to wear the bathroom slippers as it felt very dirty. There were also some betel nut stains on the floor and the walls.
The bed was quite comfortable and the shower was lovely and hot.
It was just old which is no problem but if it was a bit cleaner it would be good.
A buffet breakfast was served and each morning there was a different selection on offer. They made omelettes fresh to order.
We really enjoyed the area we stayed in. The road right outside our window was busy and noisy with people calling out their wares and buses and cars tooting. But the people were friendly and there was a lot of nice street food across the intersection. We also found some minimarts to buy extra water.
The staff were very friendly and helpful. When we bought street food we asked for plates and cutlery and they obliged but insisted on carrying them up to our room (room service).
We were happy with where we stayed in Yangon as it was within our budget, in quite a good location for all the places we needed to go and was very interesting.
