Here are the reasons why we think Joli Guesthouse is good for those on a budget – first of all it is in a quiet location 600 metres from the river and night market and cute cafes etc. as well as being only a 40 minute walk from the Thai Consulate.
Also, for only 100,000 kip a night we got a comfortable room, ensuite bathroom and free tea and coffee sachets at any time of the day or night. Free bottles of water, a fridge and a TV.
In the morning we enjoyed a tasty fried egg with butter (jam too) on a baguette from the local market, as well as free bananas.
The room is furnished with normal cheaper quality furniture and we didn’t think it looked very fashionable and I did see some hairs on the sheets but overall the cleanliness is pretty good. The adage of getting what you pay for in terms of style and prettiness is true.
The owner said this week there was a curfew for a Laos holiday so there was to be no noise after 10pm but that was fine by us as we had just travelled a long way and needed to sleep. It was very quiet that night and we had a good sleep.
